Welcome to episode #6 of the Debt-Free Dad Podcast. If you want to get out of debt, paying off debt isn’t the first step, I know that sounds crazy, but so many people make this critical mistake. In today’s show, we are going to reveal the first step you should focus on and give you some ways to make it happen.

We are sharing tips to help you build your first emergency fund! If you want to get out of debt, paying off debt isn’t the first step, and I know that sounds crazy, but one of the primary goals you should have is to save. One of the reasons why people go into debt in the first place is because they don’t have any money, and that’s a bad habit that you need to break, and you want to replace it with a good practice like saving money. When we teach this concept, the number one response I hear is, “Brad, that’s great, but how the heck do I make that happen when I am living paycheck to paycheck?” Well, that’s what this podcast episode is all about.

According to a GoBanking Rates Survey: 58% of people have less than $1,000 in savings, and 32%, that’s 1/3 of the population have nothing saved at all.
